VISIT
|
The visit begins down in the village, at the
church, built in 1731 and dedicaced to St Martin.

Go down to the small road and you will discover in the wall of the church, the exit of a spring which passes underground trough the
village from above to below and takes care of the provision of water in the
wash houses.
Then you arrive at a marble fountain.

This small place is excellent for a nap or to dream away. You will discover here, the passage of a small canal under the church,
which reveals the irrigation system that used the farmers before to water the fields under
the village.
Then return to the centre of the village and go up. Look certainly at those two wash
houses ...

... entirely renovated. The women of the village did their laundry here before
while they were chatting.
The cobblestoned roads, the rooftops of slate and the walls of stone are details of the way
the village, with its local architecture, was before.

After the second wash house, go to your right,
you'll pass a small cabin in stone. Stay here a little longer and take a look at it,
it is one of the last pig houses of our valley with an special rooftop with
'lozes'(big flat stones) .
Then take the access to the Belvédère and you will see a formation of rocks on your left,
where the ravages of time have made some steps in the rock. This was the old road that the
shephers took to bring their flocks to the
mountain prairies.

Once arrived at the Belvédère, go to the schist paving stone(named 'labas' in the language of the
valley).

Those paving stones were used to make rooftops, bridges to pass the little mountain rivers, the boundary
between the fields and the roads, and on the prairies in the mountains, the shepherds
used them to put the salt for the animals on it.
At the back of the belvédère, certainly take notice of a big rock completely lined.
This isn't because of erosion, but it is the signature of the stonemasons
who worked the rock with an engraving needle ('punchou') and a mallet
('massetto').

The old pig trough has been recycled as a water bassin. The spring comes from the 'Toue' above the
'Bernazaou' and its water is potable. At last, the orientation table gives you a
panoramic view over the mountains and the valley. ../..

../.. Then take the road that goes a little bit up, you will arrive at and intersection where you will see
a sign indicating 'Cureilles - col de Riou'; don't take it, go straight ahead.
At the edge of the wood, the road goes a little higher to your right and then goes down again very softly. Let the old road
road who goes to your right; passing trough the woods at the flank of the mountain, you will see the old
charcoal ovens. Go straight ahead until the footbridge 'Pont
de la Sère'. Cross it. Go up to the slope and follow the old road of
'Garborisse'. To go to Viscos, you go down the winding road which will bring you
to the village.
